On Tuesday, 36-year-old Tiffany Moss, was found guilty and sentenced to death by lethal injection for the murder of her 10-year-old stepdaughter Emani.

    What We Know:

    • The parents of Emani, Tiffany and Eman Moss, we’re arrested in fall 2013 and charged with murder, concealing a body, and child cruelty.
    • Emani died days after her father found her unresponsive in the bathtub, according to The Daily Beast. During that time, Emani was being starved to death. However, Eman told police that she died after consuming chemicals.
    • With the help from her husband, Tiffany burned the girl’s body which authorities found in a steel trash can. Emani had only weighed 32 pounds when found.
    • Eman pleaded guilty in 2015 to his role in her death and is currently serving life in prison without parole.
    • Tiffany represented herself but didn’t offer a defense and showed no remorse throughout the trial.
    • It was revealed to jurors that Moss suffered damage to her prefrontal cortex which limits empathy and decision making.
    •  The executive director of the Death Penalty Information Center, Robert Dunham, said that Moss would’ve been assigned a lawyer if the condition of her mental state was discovered before the pre-trial.
    • Attorney Daniel Porter told CNN that she’ll be transferred to state custody within the next 20 days.

The attorneys assigned to Moss said that they would appeal the death penalty decision, but if rejected, Moss would be the third woman in the states history  to be executed since 2015.
