Comedian Dave Chapelle will receive the Kennedy Center’s 2019 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

    What We Know:

    • The renowned jokester will join the ranks of the most famous comedians in the world with this prestigious honor including David Letterman, Eddie Murphy, Ellen DeGeneres and Whoopi Goldberg.
    • The Mark Twain award recognizes people who have had an impact on American society in ways similar to the distinguished 19th-century novelist and essayist,  Mark Twain.
    • Deborah F. Rutter, president of the Kennedy Center said, “For three decades, Dave has challenged us to see hot-button issues from his entirely original yet relatable perspective.”
    • Dave Chapelle is on a roll. This honor comes after his latest Netflix special “Equanimity & The Bird Revelation” earned him a Grammy for Best Comedy Album earlier this year and an Emmy in 2018.

Dave will be honored on Oct. 27 at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall. The award show will be televised on Jan. 6.
