The Obamas‘ production company, Higher Ground, is expanding into what they’re calling Higher Ground Audio with a new partnership with Spotify to produce exclusive podcasts.
What We Know:
- President Obama and our First Lady Michelle Obama will mostly develop and produce the podcasts while occasionally being on some of the produced content.
- The podcasts will be exclusive to Spotify’s ever-growing audience with a deal that similar to Higher Ground’s Netflix deal with a multi-year agreement.
- “We’ve always believed in the value of entertaining, thought-provoking conversation,” President Obama stated. First Lady Michelle hopes to “amplify voices that are too often ignored or silenced altogether…through compelling, inspirational storytelling, Higher Ground Audio will not only produce engaging podcasts, but help people connect emotionally and open up their minds—and their hearts.”
- Spotify recently passed the 100 million premium member mark with over 217 million active listeners in 79 markets. This year they’ve also acquired a Parcast, Gimlet Media and Anchor FM, planning to spend around $500 million to continue to expand their own portfolio.
