21 Oat-based cereal and snack products such as Cheerios tested positive for traces of glyphosate, according to CBSNews.

    What We Know:

    • Glyphosate is an active ingredient in the weed killer Roundup. Environmental Working Group said,“the tests found glyphosate levels above what it considers safe for children in all but four of the products.”
    • The tested products for glyphosate were, General Mills, 14 general mills of Nature Valley’s and Cheerios products all came back saying that they contained more than normal amounts of glyphosate in it, CBSNews said.
    • General Mills said, “food safety is a “top priority” for the company, which said it’s working to minimize the use of pesticides on the ingredients it uses.” They also stated that the use of pesticides that farmers use on the product should be evaluated as well.
    • According to CBSNews, “Glyphosate has been at the center of several high-profile lawsuits alleging the chemical causes cancer. A California jury awarded a couple $2 billion in punitive damages after concluding that sustained exposure to the Roundup weed killer led them to cancer diagnoses.”
    • Glyphosate is transferred onto the children cereal by farmers spraying it on oats to dry out the crop, in fact, making it easier to harvest. But why would one want to sell cancerous products to children?
    • The two highest levels of glyphosate were found in Honey Nut Cheerios, Medley Crunch and Cheerios, at 833 parts per billion and 729 parts per billion, CBSNews said. That is unsafe for children point. Blank. Period.

If these companies know that their product contains cancer substance, why would they continue to sell to children? Even if it’s a drop! What shocks me would be they know it has “some” glyphosate in it, now that it’s overbearing it can start causing issues.  What a shame!
