California man Marcos Antonio Echartea, 23, was arrested on Sunday after shooting a 10-month-old girl in the head after her mother rejected him at a party.

    What We Know:

    • The incident occurred at a house party in a California city where the suspect is said to have tried to hold the mother’s hand. However 18-year-old Deziree Menagh, kept rejecting him. Echartea apparently also tried to get Menagh to sit on his lap.

    • The mother left the party with the baby and a male friend and as they were driving away, they noticed Echartea walking quickly towards the car. The suspect then fired his handgun towards the car three times, hitting 10-month-old Fayth Percy as she was being held by her mother in the passenger seat.
    • According to Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer, the infant had surgery on Sunday to remove the bullet fragments from her head and remains in critical but stable condition.
    • The suspect was arrested  on suspicion of three counts of attempted murder, according to the Fresno Bee.

Echartea is a suspect in another shooting in May where he fired into an ex girlfriend’s new partner’s house.
