50 Cent caves to pressure, ‘Power’ original theme song to return next week

Fans everywhere highly anticipated the return of 50 Cent‘s Starz hit series ‘Power‘ on August 25th.   While the 6th and final season of the series kicked off with a bang, fans weren’t quiet about a change many felt was totally and completely unnecessary.

    What We Know:

    • For 5 seasons, fan and non-fans of the hit show have been familiar with the powerful and dynamic theme song ‘Big Rich Town,’ which was originally recorded by show co-creator Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson and R&B singer Joe Thomas, who uses the moniker ‘Joe’ and is famous for songs like ‘I Wanna Know’ and more recently a remix of Adele’s ‘Hello.’
    • Without notice, viewers were surprised when the show released on August 25th.  Moments after the recap of Season 5 played, a remix of ‘Big Rich Town’ accompanied the opening credits.  The collective viewing body didn’t seem very happy about the mishap.  In tweets, Facebook posts and IG stories fans demanded that the show creators return to the original song.  It was obvious that viewers preferred them to not try to fix something that wasn’t broken.
    • 50 Cent took to his Instagram to address fans Monday.  He revealed the new voice (for those that didn’t already know), and mentioned that Trey Songz (the voice) did this as a favor to him.  He joked towards the end of the video that if fan’s continued to complain, he’d be force to ‘put the sh-t back.’  Trey Songz commented on the post and demanded restitution for the pain and agony, while other cast members urged Jackson to pay attention the viewers in the comments.

    • Joe jumped into the fray and reposted an image a fan sent him crowning him ‘The Voice of Power’ with a caption that said, ‘All in Favor Say I…’  It’s unclear if he was even aware that his version would be replaced in Season 6.  It’s common practice sitcoms and television shows to make changes or ‘improvements’ to shows with longevity.  Before the days of social media, it’s likely that the frustration of a change like this would’ve went unacknowledged.

    • Fans did not chime down after the second episode aired this week (9/1), which prompted 50 Cent to post an announcement to his Instagram, the photo crowning Joe ‘The Voice of Power’ and the caption: The original theme song will play this Sunday coming. Episode 603 I directed this episode I promise it’s crazy. POWER #1 #lecheminduroi #bransoncognac
