Miami Police Department has promoted a new assistant police chief and her name is Cherise Gause.

    What We Know:

    • On September 27, 2019, Jorge Colina Chief of the Miami Police Department promoted officer Cherise Gause to assistant chief. Cherise is the department’s first Haitian American assistant chief.
    • During the ceremony, she said “I’m very happy about the promotion and I’m looking forward to doing great things with the city of Miami. Yes, I am Haitian American, so it is also a big achievement for the Haitian American community to celebrate this moment with me”.
    • The new assistant chief is very active in her community. She regularly participates in fundraisers, marathons, and community service activities in the Miami and Fort Lauderdale area.
    • Following the ceremony, Colina commented on Gause. “She’s worked very hard and she set an example for so many people and, you know, it’s just somebody — it’s undeniable the leadership and the hard work — and that’s what we need in this city.”

A new major and commander were also promoted but the star of the show was Cherise making history on that day.
