Described as a streaming media data startup, Issa Rae has acquired stake in Streamlytics.

    What We Know:

    • Coined for her red-carpet response “I’m rooting for everyone black”, Issa Rae is an actress, executive producer, creator, writer and the list continues to climb. She advances black culture by giving us authentic stories we relate to and makes sure that we are represented across the board.
    • Variety reports that Issa Rae has acquired a minority stake in Streamlytics, an L.A.-based startup founded and led by tech entrepreneur Angela Benton since 2018. It aims to help consumers of color own and monetize their streaming data.
    • According to Nielsen, African-Americans are continuously in the number one spot for media consumption across all media types and numbers are on track to grow. The U.S. Census recently reported that 191 million minorities will represent the majority of the US population by 2045. Streamlytics’ own data cites that African-Americans spend $7.3B a year between music and video streaming services.
    • In regards to her company, Benton stated that “essentially, our focus is on providing transparency on what people are streaming, and taking consumers through the process of helping them own their data”. She also mentioned that she is happy to have Issa on board. “Having Issa involved as an owner is beyond exciting. Her pioneering work as both a creator and as a businesswoman creating digital-first content that has transcended the internet-only medium aligns seamlessly with our company’s core values on ownership.”
    • Issa released a statement on her decision to invest in Streamlytics. “As streaming services become the standard for how people consume content and information, tools and companies like Streamlytics are necessary for transparency and consumer ownership,” she said. “Angela’s drive and innovative spirit is the reason why she is a pioneer in the tech space and why I’m excited to partner with her in this endeavor.”

Issa Rae has proven herself again as a driving force for black culture and validates her statement of “rooting for everyone black” by putting herself out there in support of black women, our usage and our money.
