Retired U.S. Air Force Col. Charles McGee got back in the cockpit to celebrate his 100th birthday.
What We Know:
- Over the course of his career, McGee flew in 409 combat missions over three wars setting an Air Force record. He was a decorated member of the esteemed, all African-American Army Air Corps group, Tuskegee Airmen. McGee is also a member of the National Aviation Hall of Fame.

McGee flew a Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet for around 20 minutes from Frederick, Maryland, to Dover Air Force Base, Business Insider reported. Active-duty pilots greeted the veteran when he landed.

McGee told WBOC, “What a thrill where technology has taken us. It was such a smooth flight.” He was also happy to meet with the pilots at Dover saying, “To be able to get in the air and share with those who are serving today, I don’t really have an answer, but this is one of life’s blessings.”
