Washington: Sen. Cory Booker said a looming impeachment of President Trump and other matters in Washington could be a “big, big blow” to his presidential campaign. Despite this, Booker is making an effort to win next month’s Iowa caucuses.
What We Know:
- Firstly, Sen. Booker told The Associated Press podcast Ground Game, “It’s going to be a challenging four weeks in the caucus for us. If we can’t raise more money in this final stretch, we won’t be able to do the things that other campaigns with more money can do to show presence.”
- According to The Associated Press, Booker never discussed how much he needed to raise to stay competitive in Iowa. His campaign truthfully expressed previous fundraising struggles, and in September, announced that he would be forced to end the race. Therefore, he needed to raise $1.7 million in 10 days. Luckily, he was able to accomplish this and stay in the race.
- The Democratic presidential candidate failed to meet the polling requirements for the last Democratic debate in December. Consequently, he hasn’t qualified for next week’s face-off either. If the Senator does not appear in Iowa and if his campaign takes a significant hit in resources, it could be challenging for Booker to continue the race.
- Sequentially, the Senator said, “If our pathway to victory ever closes off, I’m not staying in,” predicting he would “upset expectations in Iowa”.
- Also reported by The Associated Press, the Senator spoke after attending an all-senate brief on Wednesday. The briefing with administration officials presented the justifying of the targeted killing Iranian Gen. Qasem Soleimani. The Senator is clear that the argument lacked probable reason that the imminent threat against Americans justified killing.
- Five other senators attending the brief are also running for Democratic nomination and could be impacted by the impeachment trial.
