The US actor and comedian Kevin Hart is bringing the hit Night School back from the big screen to the small, thanks to a new pilot order from Universal TV.
What We Know:
- Hart has signed on to be the executive producer of a new NBC comedy show that is directly based off the 2018 movie Night School. Distributed by Universal Studios, the film’s opening weekend in September 2018 tallied a box office total of $27 million and went on to gross over $103 million worldwide.
- The series pilot, produced by Universal TV, is said to be very similar to the film. The plot will follow a diverse group of adults in night school prepping to take the GED. Despite their differences, they will soon discover similarities and share life experiences that will eventually bring them together.
- Much of Hart’s recent credits as a producer include the Netflix docuseries Don’t F**k This Up, FXX’s upcoming comedy Dave and CBS’ game show TKO: Total Knock Out (which he also hosted).
- This project is one of the first broadcast pilots picked up during the 2020 season along side ABC’s announced pilots for The Brides and thirtysomething(else).
Hart recently got into a near fatal car crash in September 2019, almost a year after Night School’s release, in his 1970 Plymouth Barracuda. Hart suffered several spinal injuries but has fortunately recovered since then.
