The Grammys had its fair shares of wins and losses. Here’s a recap of the Grammys surprising wins and snubs.

Billie Eilish, 18, racked up some notable wins.

Eilish won Album of the Year for When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? Eilish also won other awards for Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year for (both) “Bad Guy,” and Best Pop Vocal Album.

Lil Nas X Snubbed by Billie Eilish for Album of the Year.

Most pundits believed Lil Nas X would take home the win for Album of the Year, but that did not happen; however, Lil Nas X did win his first two Grammys for Best Pop/Group Performance and Best Music Video. Lil Nas X’s historic achievement of having the longest No. 1 single for “Old Town Road” for a prodigious 17 weeks on top, had some questioning the current Album of the Year winning.

Tyler, the Creator won a Grammy and received support from Jaden Smith, “Boyfriend”.

The rapper won Rap Album of the Year for Igor. The rapper additionally gained support from Jaden Smith, who openly said: “My Boyfriend Just Won A Grammy.” Back in 2018, Jaden addressed the crowd at Camp Flog Gnaw, truthing “Tyler doesn’t wanna say, but Tyler is my motherf***ing boyfriend, and he’s been, my motherf****ing boyfriend my whole motherf****ing life. It’s true! Tyler is my boyfriend.”

Michelle Obama won her first Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for Becoming.

The former First Lady’s winning was announced early. Obama beat out nominees; the Beastie Boys for their “Beastie Boys Book,” Eric Alexandrakis for “I.V. Catania: 20 Years As A Two-Time Cancer Survivor;” John Waters for “Mr. Know-It-All,” and Sekou Andrews for “Sekou Andrews & The String Theory.” Becoming followed the life of the former first lady and her experiences growing up on the South Side of Chicago up until her role as the first lady of the United States.

Lauren London and Nipsey Hussle’s Grandmother gave a heartfelt Grammy Acceptance Speech.

Nipsey Hussle’s family stood on stage as they accepted the gone-but-missed rapper’s very first Grammy Award on his behalf. Hussle won Best Rap Performance for his song “Racks In The Middle” featuring Roddy Ricch & Hit-Boy during the non-televised Grammy Awards pre-show. London said, “Nip did it not just for the awards but, for the people”. She added, “And God allowed him to speak his truth, give us wisdom and something that we will forever be able to live with.” The late rap icon’s grandmother also thanked everyone for their love and support, in addition to his other relatives.

    Lizzo won three Grammy Awards.

Lizzo had the most nominations of the night having deserved eight nominations, but the singer did not win any primary categories; luckily, she did rack up at least three wins. Lizzo won a Grammy for Pop Solo Performance, Urban Contemporary Album, and Traditional R&B Performance.

H.E.R. had five 2020 Grammy nominations and did not win any.

The singer did not win any Awards despite having five Grammy nominations; she lost Album of the Year for I Used to Know Her, Record of the Year for “Hard Place,” and Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance for “Could’ve Been” featuring Bryson Tiller.

Ariana Grande did not win a 2020 Grammy Award.

The singer gained “aww” on social media for her red carpet look, wearing a grey Giambattista Valli ballgown. Grande earned five Grammys nominations and did not win any of them.

The Grammys had its shocking moments but we’re all looking forward to next year.
