    World Health Organization Declares the Coronavirus a “Public Health Emergency”

    The World Health Organization (WHO) held a committee conference concerning extreme measures for the [novel] coronavirus. Coverage of the coronavirus broadcasted in 2019, in Wuhan, China; the basis of the meeting discussed exportations to other countries.

    What We Know:

    • Firstly, the coronavirus outbreak broadcasted in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. Infections have grown since being distinguished in 2019, expanding abroad.
    • WHO reported members and advisors of the Emergency Committee convened through teleconference. Furthermore, the WHO announced that the representatives of the Ministry of Health of the People’s Republic of China shared that public health measures are in effect. The report conditioned that there are now 7,711 confirmed and 12,167 suspected cases throughout the country. Moreover, 1,370 cases are severe, and 170 people have died and 174 people have improved and were discharged from hospital care. 
    • Also, the WHO Secretariat revealed that 82 cases occurred in 18 other countries; 7 of the claims suggested the sufferers had no history of travel in China. 
    • The organization concluded that the meeting will continue the next day. After the meeting, members deliberated whether or not the matter is extremely urgent or even categorized as a “Public Health Emergency”. Members agreed the measures taken involved daily contact with WHO and comprehensive multi-sectoral tactics to prevent further spread. Importantly, the organization came up with preventative measures for other cities and provinces. WHO is conducting studies on the severity and transmissibility of the virus and sharing data and biological material. 
    • In conclusion, 5 cases are from WHO regionsand the crises involved were from human-to-human transmissions. WHO concluded that there needs to be global solidarity on the matter; members emphasized the importance of readiness in battling the severe spreading of the coronavirus.
