A video that went viral over the weekend of teens at a house party in Chicago is causing controversy.

    What We Know:

    • Officials tracked down the location of the house party where hundrends of teens gathered this weekend from a video that went got millions of views on social media.
    • The home owner, mother of the kids, was not home at the time and didn’t know her kids had thrown the party.
    • Representative LaShawn Ford stated “To say that they should practice social distancing because it will save your life, you should wear a face mask because it will save your life- they don’t see that”.
    • The video has gotten strong reactions from Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Twitter, where she called out the partygoers for puting everyone around them in danger.
    • Mayor Lightfoot stated in a press briefing that it goes against everything she had been telling Chicagoans to do amid the pandemic.
    • Statistic show that African Americans are dying at a higher rate from the coronavirus than any other demographic, and yet most of the party goers were African American teens who weren’t wearing masks.
    • Other political leaders want the teens that hosted the party to be punished but Rep. Ford says this is a teachable moment. “Young people should get tested and learn form the mistake that they made.”

It is said the party was held in honor of someone that had been killed.
