A pilot for an interesting drama about a female hip-hop group seems to be in the works for the ABC network. Zahir McGhee, the creator of Harlem’s Kitchen, recently renewed an overall deal and was given a production commitment by ABC Studios.

    What We Know:

    • The pilot was reportedly one of the biggest sellers this broadcast pitching season, which due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has gone completely virtual. Despite this change in the entertainment industry, ABC was persuaded enough to offer a production commitment to McGhee. He will write and be an executive producer for the drama.
    • The premise of the show is a hip-hop group, who broke up 20 years earlier due to fighting and disagreements, finding themselves back in the public eye. The former 90’s group is now out-of-touch with the current generation, and these mothers in their forties must now unite to regain their former glory and mend friendships that seemed lost.
    • The new series is currently under development and has yet to reveal any other details apart from its potential creation due to McGhee’s deal. The project is still untitled at the moment but inside rumors suggest Nasty B*****es as a temporary title.

    • McGhee has had growing success the past few years with ABC Studios and has also begun renewing an overall deal. His other previous works include shows like Scandal and Private Practice.
    • Stumptown, a solid crime and drama series, is another one of McGhee’s most recent successes as a consulting producer. Moreover, he is also the executive producer and showrunner of the ABC drama pilot Harlem’s Kitchen, which is yet another strong contender to be picked up as a series.

McGhee’s work doesn’t stop there, he will be working with producer Sabrina Wind, on another new untitled drama at ABC Studios. Wind leads a decently successful career on television as well. Her most current work is being executive producer of the new Muppets Now series, which just premiered on the ever-popular Disney+ streaming service.
