    Update 10/3/2020 12:32 PM EST:

Chiefs practice squad QB Jordan Ta’amu has also tested positive for COVID-19 and both players have been placed on the reserve/COVID list.  A statement from the NFL has announced the game’s postponement to Monday or Tuesday as a result.

“The New England-Kansas City game scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday will be rescheduled to Monday or Tuesday after positive COVID-19 tests on both teams.  In consultation with infectious disease experts, both clubs are working closely with the NFL and the NFLPA to evaluate multiple close contacts, perform additional testing and monitor developments. All decisions will be made with the health and safety of players, team and gameday personnel as our primary consideration.”

    Original 10/3/20 12:15 PM EST:

Patriots quarterback, Atlanta Native Cam Newton has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Sunday’s Patriot’s game.

    What We Know:

    • The New England Patriots announced Saturday morning that Newton tested positive and has entered self-quarantine.  All remaining players and coaches have been tested and received negative test results.

    • The Patriots are scheduled to play against the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday, October 4th but are now awaiting further instructions from the NFL.  NFL veteran Brian Hoyer serves as the Patriots’ number two quarterback with Jarrett Stidham third on the chart.
    • According to ESPN “The Patriots were scheduled to depart for Kansas City on Saturday afternoon, but plans are now on standby as the club awaits more test results and guidance from the NFL.”  The team may leave Sunday for Kansas City and play against the Chiefs Monday.
    • Newton has added to the winning record for the Patriots thus far with two touchdowns and 714 yards.  Prior to joining the Patriots this year, Newton spent nine seasons with the Carolina Panthers.
    • The Patriots are not the only team beginning to see a direct impact from COVID-19.  Earlier this week the Tennessee Titans postponed a game due to positive COVID-19 tests on their roster.  The NFL also fined multiple coaches and teams for not abiding by the mask mandate appropriately levying over $1 million in fines.

Well wishes to Cam Newton in his recovery and all those impacted through this pandemic.
