    Lance Reddick, Beloved Star Of ’The Wire’ & ‘John Wick’ Franchise, Reportedly Dies From Natural Causes At 60

    The world of cinema is mourning the sudden passing of actor Lance Reddick, known for his roles in “The Wire” and the John Wick series. The 60-year-old actor died of natural causes at his home in Studio City, California, according to his representative, Mia Hansen.

    The Hollywood star was a versatile actor who played a range of characters, from the smartly-dressed special agent Phillip Broyles in “Fringe” to the taciturn Lt. Cedric Daniels in “The Wire.” In the John Wick franchise, he played the charismatic and unflappable concierge Charon, who provided sanctuary to assassins. The fourth installment of the series, set to be released next week, will be his final appearance as Charon.

    A day before his death, Lance shared several photos of himself playing with his dogs:

    “On screen and off, it’s no surprise I love spoiling my dogs,” he wrote in the caption. “@officialhardrock makes it easy with a full line of @johnwickmovie dog swag available at @hardrockhotels Unleashed locations, and a very special #NationalPuppyDay event at @hardrockhotelnyc to support @animalleague.     Lance’s sudden death has left his co-stars and colleagues in shock. Wendell Pierce, who worked with Lance on “The Wire,” expressed his grief on Twitter, saying, “painful grief for our artistic family.”

     “A man of great strength and grace. As talented a musician as he was an actor. The epitome of class. An sudden unexpected sharp painful grief for our artistic family. An unimaginable suffering for his personal family and loved ones. Godspeed my friend. You made your mark here. RIP,” Wendell tweeted.

    David Simon, the mastermind behind the critically acclaimed series “The Wire,” took to Twitter to shower praise on Lance:

    Filmmaker James Gunn also paid tribute to Reddick, calling him “an incredibly nice guy, and an incredibly talented actor” in a tweet.

    Just one day before his untimely passing, Reddick spoke to TV personality Bevy Smith on “Bevelations” about the death of his former “The Wire” co-star Michael K. Williams during one of his final interviews.

     

     

    He expressed shock and sadness at the news, saying that he had no idea Michael was still struggling with drug addiction.

    Lance was a Yale University drama school graduate who also studied classical composition at the prestigious Eastman School of Music. He released his first album, “Contemplations and Remembrances,” in 2011.

    Lance Reddick is survived by his wife Stephanie Reddick (above) and two children, Yvonne Nicole Reddick and Christopher Reddick. His wife shared a message to his fans following reports of his death:

     

     

    Despite his sudden departure, Lance’s work will continue to live on. He had several upcoming projects, including the remake of White Men Can’t Jump and the biopic of former Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm. His work on John Wick has left an indelible mark on the franchise, and his absence will be keenly felt by fans and colleagues alike. He will be sorely missed, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
