*Last week wasNational Police Week. Local law enforcement departments celebrated people in law enforcement around the country, including all the alphabet boys and girls. Celebrating the FBI, CIA, and DOJ. But while some people applauded the “alphabeters,” others in Congress are talking about reducing the budgets of the Department of Justice. That means reducing the budget of the FBI and CIA. That trickles down to less money for state and local law enforcement. In other words, they want to defund the police! It’s what some of us have been proposing for years!
But before you get excited thinking a bunch of conservative White dudes give a damn about what you think, just know this: They don’t want to defund the police for the same reasons some of us want to defund the police.
We want to defund the police because of (former) cops like Derek Chauvin, Timothy Loehman, Myles Cosgrove, Amber Guyger, Kim Potter, and Jason Van Dyke, to name a few. Republican members of Congress want to defund the police to prevent the investigative spotlight from shining on Donald Trump and congresspeople suspected of aiding and abetting Insurrection co-conspirators. It’s all about Donald Trump, the man who claimed to be tough on crime until his criminal behavior became the focus.
Some of these congresspeople are clowns in business suites. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see it. But apparently, it takes the courage of Black women in Congress to call them out on it. Click the video above for more details.
