‘The Idol’ Starring The Weeknd Seemingly ENDING Earlier Than Planned

The Weeknd‘s polarizing series ‘The Idol’ is seemingly coming to an end sooner than planned.

    Full story below…

Today (June 27), it’s been confirmed that the forthcoming fifth episode of the series – which was co-created by The Weekend (Abel Tesfaye), Sam Levinson, and Reza Fahim – will be the last of the season.

It means that ‘The Idol’ will conclude this Sunday (July 2).

One may be wondering why that’s of note.

Well, the initial 2021 announcement of the HBO show revealed that it was picked up for a six-episode order.

The “missing episode” and seemingly abrupt end to the season have many wondering whether it’s simply a creative decision or more the result of the questionable response audiences and especially critics have had to the series.

After generating ample buzz with its Pop star focal narrative and the major real-life names attached (from The Weeknd to Lily-Rose Deep to ‘Euphoria’ maestro Levinson), the show quickly become one of the most anticipated of the current TV season.

However, reviews have been seismically savage; and rather than its storylines, the discourse around ‘The Idol’ has largely centered on reports of rewrites, the male gaze, and the performances of its stars.

As of writing, there’s no definitive word on a season 2.
