The cast of The Color Purple are giving fans an inside look into what they can expect from the upcoming movie adaptation of the Broadway musical.

In the featurette, producer and star of the original 1985 film Oprah Winfrey, director Blitz Bazawule, Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Halle Bailey and Fantasia Barrino talk about what it was like to be a part of this adaptation. Winfrey herself said that being a part of this story has been impactful to her.

“There’s nothing that’s been more important or vital to me culturally, artistically than The Color Purple. It is a solid base of spiritual and emotional power for me,” she said in the video, added that the musical’s story is for anyone who has felt “unseen and unvalued.”

The musical is also produced by the 1985 film director Steven Spielberg, Quincy Jones and Scott Sanders. The film’s screenplay is written by Marcus Gardley, based on Alice Walker’s novel and the musical stage play written by Marsha Norman with the stage play’s music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray. The cast also includes Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Corey Hawkins, Colman Domingo, H.E.R., Phylicia Pearl Mpasi Barrino in their feature film debuts.
