*Lionsgate released the trailer for “The Strangers: Chapter 1,” the prequel to the 2008 cult-classic horror thriller.
The film is the third in the horror franchise, directed by Renny Harlin. Per ScreenRant, “The film follows a young couple who move to the Pacific Northwest to start a new life. However, their new life gets off to a terrifying start when a broken-down vehicle forces them to stay at a remote vacation home, leaving them to be stalked relentlessly by three masked murderers,” the outlet writes.
“We felt it was central to the movie that the masks are the same,” Harlin told Entertainment Weekly last year.
“The masks in The Strangers are not like the Batsuit or something that evolves over years. To us, the Strangers are the Strangers, and I, as an audience member, wanted to see them just the way they were in the original film,” Harlin continued.
“Is there a place where you can find these masks? No. It was a process of studying what they were like, how were they made, how they fit on the actors’ faces, how [to] create that same impression. It was one of the real challenges of the movie.”
As ScreenRant reports, “The Strangers: Chapter 1” will reveal more about the origin story of the masked intruders. Both the original films were based on real-life crimes.
