*”Bob Marley: One Love” and the Netflix film “Shirley” debuted in the Top 10 viewing charts at home this week.

IndieWire reports that “One Love” is #1 at Fandango and #3 on iTunes. The movie celebrates the life and music of reggae icon Bob Marley, who inspired generations through his message of love, peace, and unity.

Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and starring Kingsley Ben-Adir, InideWire reports that the biopic’s three-day total opening weekend last month was about $27.7 million against a $70 million production cost.

The outlet writes, “Reviews were not good (43 Metacritic), but it has an A Cinemascore and two weeks with little competition. It could become the first domestic $100-million grossing film of 2024.”

    ‘Bob Marley: One Love’

We reported earlier that “Bob Marley: One Love” earned a remarkable $51 million over six days after it’s Feb. 14 theatrical opening. With a four-day total of $33.2 million, “Bob Marley: One Love” accomplished what’s expected of musical biopics about legendary figures. For context, the acclaimed “Bohemian Rhapsody” debuted with a three-day opening of $51 million. The film has amassed a global total of $80 million to date.

“My family and I are honored with the amazing response to Bob Marley: One Love. Like my father’s music, this movie is meant for the people, and his message of peace, love, and unity is clearly connecting with audiences around the world,” producer Ziggy Marley told Deadline. “We thank the people for embracing this film, and in so doing, helping to highlight the message of one love.”

In related news, “Shirley,” starring Regina King, debuted on Netflix at #3 and is currently in fourth place on the streamer, per IndieWire.

King stars as Shirley Chisholm, the trailblazing figure who became the first Black congresswoman and made history as the initial Black woman to run for U.S. president.

Set against the backdrop of Chisholm’s groundbreaking 1972 presidential campaign, the movie is written and directed by John Ridley, acclaimed for “12 Years a Slave,” while Regina King and her sister Reina King serve as producers.  The stellar cast includes Lucas Hedges, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Christina Jackson, Dorian Crossmond Missick, Amirah Vann, André Holland, Terrence Howard, and the late actor Lance Reddick.
