This Black-Owned Resort Is On Track to Become One of the World’s Largest Hotels – Travel Noire

One of the largest resorts in the world is in a small city in Ghana. Plus, it’s Black-owned. It was also designed by a team of Black woman designers and architects who helped create the vision for it to become one of the world’s largest resorts.

Having gone through a years-long construction process since its foundation was laid in 2008, the property is now close to its final goal of becoming a major player in the international resort game. Here’s what to know about it.

    Starting the Vision

Rock City Hotel is located in Kwahu, a city in Nkwatia, a region of Ghana.

Located in a picturesque, mountainous city, the hotel is one of the largest on the continent of Africa and hosts several thousand guests throughout the year. It’s made up of more than 600 rooms currently, and, according to its website, the resort will become the largest in operation on the continent when it complex the more than 2,200 rooms planned.

In the near future, the hotel plans to become a premier world destination for conferences and conventions, with a “state-of-the-art” conference center being built, the website said, alongside a 2800-seat auditorium on the property.  What began as a community of serviced apartments in 2018 has become a premiere hotel with plans to become a world-renowned property.

In 2019, the hotel officially opened a portion of its complete rooms, and then, in 2022, began hosting more large groups and special occasions, including weddings, small conferences, and special guests like performers and artists who came to the area.

    Nearing its Goal

Since Travel Noire first reported the resort’s planned expansion in 2022, the property has undergone significant updates and construction, including the completion of several hundred hotel rooms, many large meeting rooms, and other attractions underway, like an aquarium and grounds for a zoo.

Another major completion is the resort’s two-story nightclub, which frequently hosts Ghanaian artists and throws large events and parties on holiday.

Now just one year from its 2025 completion goal, the resort looks like it could be completed, or at least nearly completed, in that time.
