In an exclusive conversation, we spoke to Alice Kremelberg and Adrian Lester about their pivotal roles in the exciting new series “Renegade Nell,” now streaming on Disney+.

Set against historical intrigue and feminist rebellion, “Renegade Nell” promises to captivate audiences with its unique blend of wit, adventure, and empowerment.

In this action-adventure fantasy series from creator Sally Wainwright, Louisa Harland (“Derry Girls”) stars in the leading role of Nell Jackson, “a quick-witted and courageous young woman, finds herself framed for murder and unexpectedly becomes the most notorious outlaw in 18th-century England. But when a magical spirit called Billy Blind (Mohammed) appears, Nell realizes her destiny is bigger than she ever imagined, per the official synopsis.

Harland leads an ensemble cast that includes Frank Dillane as “Charles Devereux,” Kremelberg as “Sofia Wilmot,” Ényì Okoronkwo as “Rasselas,” Jake Dunn as “Thomas Blancheford,” Bo Bragason as “Roxy Trotter,” Florence Keen as “George Trotter,” with Joely Richardson as “Lady Eularia Moggerhangar” and Lester as “Robert Hennessey, Earl of Poynton.” Pip Torrens as “Lord Blancheford” and Craig Parkinson as “Sam Trotter” also star.

    Check out the trailer below.

Director Ben Taylor (Sex Education) told the UK Express that “the action was a large part of what attracted me to the project.”

He added, “And the ability to work at this budget level of having a stunt team, a full-time stunt choreographer and a lot of amazing people.”

The director noted that the “main challenge was setting our rules.”

“We were working on what could be described as a superhero show, but it’s not based on IP, it’s not based on a franchise or a graphic novel,” he explained.

“So we were there in the early meetings saying, ‘Here’s the situation. She’s held up at gunpoint, there’s a fight around the carriage. How do we use the carriage? How do we improvise? How do we make her reactive to the situation?” Taylor continued.

“‘And most importantly, what is she capable of doing?’ It was thrilling, but quite perilous knowing that we were inventing this new set of physical rules.”

In an exclusive interview with EURweb, Harland described her “strong female character” as funny and “flawed.”

“She’s the strongest woman in the world with the help of a trusted plucky sprite in the form of Nick Mohammed. What’s not to love?” she said about the show.

“She faces a lot of challenges along the way, all things to do with class and justice and all elements to protect her family and to create a better life for herself and her sisters,” the actress said about her character. “She keeps coming across hurdles — some incredible characters throughout the series, good and evil, she has to come across and deal with.”
