For over a decade, “Baywatch” captivated audiences with its lifeguards in red, dramatic rescues and slow-motion runs on pristine beaches. But where was “Baywatch” filmed? The answer, like the show itself, is multifaceted.

If you’re a “Baywatch” fan and ever dreamed of visiting the sunny shores where Mitch Buchannon and his team saved lives in style, then this is for you! We’ll be diving into some of the key filming locations used throughout the series, giving you a chance to recreate your favorite “Baywatch” moment.

    Where Was ‘Baywatch’ Filmed?

“Baywatch,” the iconic television series that ran from 1989 to 2001, offered a glimpse into the lives of lifeguards patrolling the stunning Californian coastline.

The choice of filming locations wasn’t merely aesthetic for “Baywatch.” Each location brought its unique flavor to the show. By showcasing this variety, “Baywatch” broadened its appeal and allowed viewers to connect with the show on a more personal level. Buckle up as we dive into the real-world settings and breathtaking locations that brought “Baywatch” to life.

Will Rogers State Beach, Santa Monica, California

Key Scenes: Remember the iconic opening scene in the 2017 movie where The Rock’s character, Mitch Buchannon, performs a daring rescue from a helicopter crash? That heart-stopping sequence was filmed at Will Rogers State Beach.

Best Time to Visit: May to September offers warm weather and sunshine, perfect for a beach day. However, expect larger crowds during this peak season. Shoulder months (April-May and September-October) can provide a good balance between pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

Transportation: Easily accessible by car from Los Angeles. Public transport options include buses and the Metro Expo Line, with a short walk or taxi ride to the beach itself.

This beach served as the show’s primary filming location, featuring prominently in countless rescue scenes and beachside headquarters shots. It is not as busy with crowds as its neighboring beaches in Malibu and Santa Monica, but it does get its fair share in the summer. It’s nice and sandy, is perfect for sunbathing and swimming, and has over 3 miles of beachfrontage and about 103 acres of beach. Soak up the sunshine and golden sand, the same playground where Pamela Anderson’s C.J. Parker patrolled the waves.

Things to Do: Sunbathing, swimming, surfing, beach volleyball – all the classic Californian beach activities are available here. You can even take a surfing lesson and attempt to ride a wave like Stephanie Holden. There’s also a bike path along the coast for scenic rides.

Where to Eat: Ocean Park Boulevard, running parallel to the beach, offers a variety of restaurants and cafes. From casual seafood shacks to trendy cafes, you’ll find something to satisfy your post-beach cravings.

Where to Stay: Stay at the Ocean View Hotel or Santa Monica hotel.

    Deerfield Beach, Florida

Key Scenes: The 2017 “Baywatch” movie took the action to Florida, and Deerfield Beach served as the lifeguard headquarters for the film.

    Best Time to Visit:
Florida’s beaches are lovely year-round, but keep in mind the summer heat and humidity. Spring (March-May) and fall (September-November) offer pleasant weather with fewer crowds.

Transportation: Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is the closest major airport. Renting a car is the most convenient way to get around Deerfield Beach and explore the surrounding area.

While not featured in the series as one of the locations where “Baywatch” was filmed, Deerfield Beach boasts a beautiful stretch of coastline and a vibrant atmosphere. When you’re not swimming, building sandcastles, surfing, hunting for seashells, or sunning on the stretch of Blue Wave Beach, you’ll find oceanfront restaurants to savor, places to stay near all the best things to do, and memorable annual events you’ll want to return for every year.

Things to Do: Visit the Deerfield Beach Pier for stunning ocean views and fresh seafood or Deer Creek Golf Club. If you’re a fan of the movie, take a photo in front of the lifeguard tower that served as Mitch Buchannon’s Florida base.

Where to Eat: Deerfield Beach offers a variety of dining options, from beachfront cafes like the Ocean 234 to upscale restaurants like the Chanson’s. Don’t miss out on fresh local seafood on Kahuna’s Bar and Grill.

Where to Stay: Deerfield Beach has a range of accommodation options, including beachfront resorts like the Wyndham Deerfield beach resort, family-friendly hotels, and vacation rentals.

    Oahu, Hawaii

Key Scenes: Later seasons of “Baywatch” incorporated scenes filmed on the beautiful Hawaiian island of Oahu.

Best Time to Visit: Hawaii is a fantastic destination year-round, with warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine. However, there are peak seasons to consider. Shoulder months (April-May and September-October) tend to be less crowded and offer good value.

Transportation: Oahu is well-connected by air. Renting a car is the most convenient way to get around the island and explore different beaches.

Oahu provided a stunning backdrop for some truly breathtaking water rescues in the series. It offers endless possibilities for outdoor activities. Surfing, snorkeling, hiking, and exploring the lush rainforests are just a few options. Don’t miss visiting Pearl Harbor and learning about Hawaiian history and culture.

Things to Do: Visit Aulani, a Disney resort and spa or the popular Turtle Bay resort.

Where to Eat: Fresh seafood is a must-try in Hawaii. From roadside stands to fine dining restaurants, you’ll find a variety of options to suit your taste and budget.

    Where to Stay
: Stay at luxurious beachfront resorts like the Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club or budget-friendly hotels like Waikiki.

    A Paradise Story

From the golden sands of California to the lush landscapes of Hawaii and the vibrant shores of Florida, “Baywatch’s” filming locations mirrored the show’s global appeal. Each place offered a unique perspective on the lifeguard lifestyle and the beauty of coastal environments. So, the next time you hear the theme song, close your eyes and let the images of these filming locations transport you to your little slice of “Baywatch” paradise.
