WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert made headlines this week with her comments that failed to condemn racist and vitriolic behavior from fans on social media about the rivalry between Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese.
Engelbert has clarified her comments since her appearance Monday on Power Lunch on CNBC, saying “to be clear, there is absolutely no place for hate or racism of any kind in the WNBA or anywhere else,” but the disappointment expressed by WNBA players, the fan base and the WNBA Players Association was swift and pointed.
Andscape senior editor Erik Horne, commentator Ari Chambers and senior HBCU writer Mia Berry discuss Engelbert’s comments, how the WNBA got to this point and next steps for the league.
