Jay-Z, the renowned rapper and entrepreneur, has been accused in a civil lawsuit of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000 alongside Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. The anonymous accuser, identified as “Jane Doe,” alleges the assault occurred after she was taken to an MTV Video Music Awards after-party.

    What We Know:

    • The federal lawsuit was initially filed in October 2023 against Combs and refiled on Sunday to include Jay-Z (Shawn Carter).
    • The accuser claims she was 13 years old at the time of the alleged incident.
    • The lawsuit states that the assault took place at a house party following the MTV Video Music Awards in New York.
    • Jay-Z claimed his lawyer was sent “blackmail” surrounding the allegations from attorney Tony Buzbee in an effort to pressure him into settling out of court. Carter went on to say that it had the “opposite effect” and instead enflamed Carter to expose his accuser for “the fraud [they] are in a VERY public fashion.”

“You have made a terrible error in judgment thinking that all ‘celebrities’ are the same. I’m not from your moral world. I’m a young man who made it out of the project of Brooklyn,” Carter wrote. “We don’t play these types of games. We have very strict codes and honor. We protect children, you seem to exploit people for personal gain. Only your network of conspiracy theorists, fake physics, will believe the idiotic claims you have levied against me that, if not for the seriousness surrounding harm to kids, would be laughable.”

    – Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, December 8th, 2024

    • The lawsuit was filed under New York’s Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act.
    • Combs is currently facing criminal charges for racketeering and sex trafficking, and is in custody awaiting trial.
    • The accuser alleges she was given a drink that made her feel unwell before the assault occurred.
    • Both Jay-Z and Combs are accused of raping the plaintiff, with an unnamed female celebrity allegedly present.

The accuser is seeking unspecified damages in the lawsuit. This case adds to the growing list of legal troubles for both Jay-Z and Combs, with potential far-reaching consequences for their careers and reputations in the music industry.
