AI Tool Set to Slash 50% of Federal Regulations

A newly revealed DOGE‑powered AI system is now being deployed across federal agencies, aiming to eliminate half of existing regulations by January 2026.

    What We Know:

    • The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has developed the “DOGE AI Deregulation Decision Tool”, designed to analyze roughly 200,000 federal regulations, targeting up to 100,000 for removal as “no longer required by law.”
    • According to internal documents dated July 1, agencies such as HUD and the CFPB have already used it to review 1,083 regulatory sections at HUD and reportedly produce 100% of deregulations at CFPB.
    • The measure aligns with President Trump’s broader deregulatory agenda, including recent executive orders mandating agencies repeal ten old regulations for every new one adopted.
    • Trump administration officials emphasize the project is still in early stages, with no plan fully approved; it’s led by Musk-connected teams and oversight includes some staff review, though critics raise doubts about accuracy and legal legitimacy.
    • The effort is seen as part of a larger shift toward embedding AI deeply in government decisions, provoking concerns over transparency, regulatory oversight, and constitutional authority.

The DOGE AI Deregulation Decision Tool represents a bold, high-stakes attempt to reshape the federal regulatory framework using artificial intelligence—setting a new precedent with sweeping implications for policy, law, and government structure.

This is a continuing story and updates will appear here.
