On October 21, Airbnb introduced a range of new features to enhance its users’ experiences, including ways for people to socialize and connect.
Those who utilize Airbnb Experiences will be able to socially network with other participants “before, during, and after” the activity. Ahead of booking an experience, Airbnb users will be able to see others who will be in attendance, and where they’re from, as long as they opted into sharing their profile with others on the platform. Through a new “Connections” tab, users will also be able to see people they’ve embarked on Airbnb Experiences with. Moreover, another new feature is the ability to direct message other participants after an experience, allowing you to sustain connections and even plan future meetups.
Leaving users in control of who sees their information, they’ll have the choice to share their profile for each experience. Their details will not be automatically shared with all participants for each experience booked.
What Else Is There To Know About Airbnb’s New Social Features And Additions?
In an October 21 Instagram post, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky said the new social facets are part of 65 features the company rolled out based on user feedback.
“One of the best parts of traveling is meeting new people,” the CEO said before discussing some of Airbnb’s new social features.
Additionally, he told CNBC, “We’re not trying to create a social network online. But I like the idea that we’re trying to create essentially — almost like a social network in the real world. A way you can connect with other people in the real world. And I want to be one of the tech founders that is trying to get people off of tech devices, into the real world. And if we need to use a device as a gateway, and applications as a gateway to do that, then so be it.”
“When we’re at the end of our life, we’re not going to be remembering the apps we used. We’re not going to be remembering the novel tool we’re using. We’re going to remember the people and experiences we had and we shared together,” he added.
