Couples who follow up their destination wedding with a honeymoon in the same location can save money and cut down on their travel time and planning.

Known as a “weddingmoon,” spending extra time in your destination wedding location decompressing from your nuptials and immediately enjoying your honeymoon can be a great way to kick off married life. Beyond the relaxing and romantic reasons why weddingmoons work, resorts offering relevant wedding packages additionally make them financially savvy. While weddingmoons might not directly save money on your wedding, they can save you money on your honeymoon.

Sandals Resorts’ director of weddings and romance, Marsha-Ann Donaldson, told Brides in 2025 that the adult-only, all-inclusive chain not only backs the weddingmoon trend, but has also helped bring the phrase to life.

“Sandals Resorts has long embraced the unique combination of destination wedding and honeymoon trends,” said Donaldson. “We actually coined the term ‘weddingmoon’ to capture the seamless transition from ceremony to honeymoon,” she added.

Providing more insight into how weddingmoons play out for couples, the exec shared that it’s not uncommon for wedding guests to also add extra time to their itineraries after a couple says “I do.”

“Today, as couples continue to honeymoon at Sandals after their wedding, we are seeing more friends and family extending their stays to spend extra time with the newlyweds. This experience lets loved ones spend more quality time with the couple to celebrate, relax, and make even more memories,” Donaldson explained.

What Destinations Are Best For A Weddingmoon?

Award-winning travel advisor Dr. Terika L. Haynes recently told Travel Noire that affordable destination wedding locations that commonly provide wedding packages are Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica. If you’re on the hunt for a money-saving weddingmoon package, accommodations in those countries are a great starting point.

Wisely consider whether you’ll allow friends and family to be a part of your weddingmoon. If yes, then that could factor into where you pick for your wedding destination and accommodations.

Other destinations perfect for a joint wedding and honeymoon trip include Hawaii and Puerto Rico in the United States, as well as Costa Rica and French Polynesia.
