The Wayans brothers are returning to the franchise that helped define early 2000s parody. On Thursday, Paramount Pictures released the first trailer for Scary Movie 6, marking the family’s first official involvement with the series in 25 years. The last time Marlon, Shawn and Keenen Ivory Wayans were attached to a Scary Movie film was 2001’s Scary Movie 2.
Set to hit theaters on June 12, 2026, the new installment reunites Marlon Wayans as Shorty, Shawn Wayans as Ray, Anna Faris as Cindy and Regina Hall as Brenda. The trailer opens with a familiar horror setup before quickly spiraling into sharp satire aimed at the current wave of reboots, remakes and so-called “legacy” sequels. The film’s synopsis promises that “no horror movie IP is safe,” with the Core Four once again facing off against a masked killer that feels suspiciously familiar.
This time, the franchise takes aim at modern horror trends, from elevated genre films to endless final chapters that refuse to stay final. The trailer leans into self-awareness, poking fun at sequel fatigue while signaling that the Wayans-led creative team intends to reclaim the irreverent tone that made the original a box office force.
Directed by Michael Tiddes and produced by Marlon, Shawn, Keenen Ivory and Craig Wayans alongside Rick Alvarez, Scary Movie 6 also features Damon Wayans Jr., Kim Wayans, Cheri Oteri and Heidi Gardner among its ensemble.
