A New Year’s Day parade celebration in Philadelphia has quickly turned sour, after two white Mummers have been accused of  marching in the parade with blackface. What We Know: The Mummers are costumed entertainers that celebrate the new year. According to the parade’s website, for over 120 years, 10,000 adults and children celebrate New Year’s Day together in Philadelphia with the Mummers Parade in colorful costumes. Unfortunately, one organization’s members took their costumes too far. Director and storyteller Ava DuVeray, has a lot to celebrate this week as she has received her first Directors Guild Award nomination! What We Know: On Monday, the academy released a partial list of 2020 nominees for the 72nd DGA Awards which features DuVeray’s name among others. Colorado radio host Chuck Bonniwell suggested live on air that a school shooting would be a great distraction from President Trump’s impeachment. The two prison guards who were in charge of monitoring Jeffery Epstein, were charged Tuesday with conspiracy and filing false records by a grand jury. What We Know:  In August, multimillionaire Jeffery Epstein was found dead in his cell around 6:30 a.m. at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan. Tova Noel, 31, and Michael Thomas, 41, who were his guards during this time, pleaded not guilty in Manhattan federal court. Seven Popeyes employees at a Milwaukee restaurant have been fired after they got into a fight. What We Know: A fight between the employees, that consisted of both male and female participants, reportedly took place in the back of the restaurant by the grills and also in front of the restaurant in the dining area. John Conner III, also known as “Coach John” from the hit television show Bring It!, has pleaded guilty to multiple felonies, one including statutory rape. What We Know: Conner, 30, is known as the coach of the Memphis, Tennessee based dance team, “THE INFAMOUS DANCERETTES”. He is charged with “statutory rape by an authority figure, criminal exposure to HIV, and soliciting sexual exploitation of a minor” reports CBS42.
